I recently started finding out information about Midnight Sun, the novel many anticipated to be release by Stephenie Meyer from Edward’s perspective of Twilight, and have found a treasure. While a partial rough draft was unintentionally released without Meyer’s permission, Meyer’s has gone ahead and herself allowed readers to see the unedited draft of the book.
Yes, the book is still on hold indefinitely, however, I do believe with in a few years, it will be published. Stephenie Meyer will not be able to resist writing Edward’s story; and the pain from having her work misused will fade with time.
Below is some of the excerpts from Stephenie’s last post about Midnight Sun at StephenieMeyer.com:
“As some of you may have heard, my partial draft of Midnight Sun was illegally posted on the Internet and has since been virally distributed without my knowledge or permission or the knowledge or permission of my publisher.
[…] I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published. I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being. As the author of the Twilight Saga, I control the copyright and it is up to the owner of the copyright to decide when the books should be made public; this is the same for musicians and filmmakers. Just because someone buys a book or movie or song, or gets a download off the Internet, doesn't mean that they own the right to reproduce and distribute it. Unfortunately, with the Internet, it is easy for people to obtain and share items that do not legally belong to them. No matter how this is done, it is still dishonest. This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control.
So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.
[…] But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available here. This way, my readers don't have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest. I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place.
I do want to take a moment and thank the wonderful fans who have been so supportive of me over the past three years. I cannot begin to tell you how much each of you means to me. I only hope this note will stop all the confusion and online speculation so that the Twilight universe can once again become the happy escape it used to be. After this incredibly busy year, I am now focusing on spending more time with my family and working on some other writing projects.

Here is the link to the about 300 pages of Midnight Sun that have been drafted. Again, in regards to Stephenie’s rights as the author, please do not do any illegal distribution and the like with the manuscript. And maybe one day, we will be able to enjoy the entirety of Midnight Sun.
I myself have read this draft of Midnight Sun and I was in awe. There is so much clarity given to the whole saga even in just this draft. Now we can understand what goes on in Edward’s head, the Cullen household, and why life for all of them is such a struggle. When/if published, Midnight Sun I do believe will out sell the other Twilight Saga books.
Until that day, enjoy the rough draft!

Well, I already knew Midnight Sun existed, however I had not done any research on it until the other day.

I believe that she needs to finish the book. It was the first book saga that i read outside of class. I love all four books! Please Ms Meyer could you please finish it and publish. I want the book. I read the first couple of pages of midnight sun. The reader was able to get inside edwards heard and understand his feels. Unlike the other books you get to read edward thoughts. i believe its better then the other books( i loved them im not dogging them). Ms Meyer please publish it in book form. I will read any books you write in the future. maybe if you publish midnight sun then you could write one about edwards point of view in new moon. when he leaves bella for her safety. please keep writng more books. signed a big fan Ashley L
Please! Finish the book so that everybody can enjoy the whole thing. We have enjoyed the first four ones and now we need to read this one too to understand why Edward felt the way he did. We, readers, are hooked on your stories. I first read "THe HOst" and then I felt the urge to read more of your stuff. Don't stop writing. YOur stories are gripping and tender at the same time. I love them.
Please, please, please *Puppy dog pout* finish and publish Midnight Sun. I love the Twilight Saga, and I really badly want more. I am really sorry for the distrubution of the books' rough draft without permission, and I feel so sorry for you.(I wasn't the one who did it. I always just say sorry, even if I didn't do it.) But please, please, finish Midnight Sun. It is the first saga by Bellas' POV that led me to learn about MS, and I want to read Edwards feelings towards the whole sagas'sitches. So please, I ask of you, finish Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer. I am not a highly patient tween. I really do feel sorry for you. Get Well Soon.

I read this a few months ago on her page after reading about it being put out without her knowledge & thought it was great. I hope she finishes it & doesn't let the ignorance of whoever done that stop her from doing it. Writing is a talent that once you do it & are a success at it like she is with the Twilight saga that she'll continue to be successful. I really enjoyed reading this from Edwards point of view
Stephenie Meyer has created such a vivid character in Edward Cullen. It would be a shame to silence his voice. Stephanie, let Edward speak.
i do wish "Midnight Sun" would be published soon!
i hope stephenie meyer won't stop creating beautiful masterpieces as such..
we totally enjoy her works.
When I heard the "Midnight Sun" had been leaked and Stephenie Meyers was upset...even hurt by the betrayal I forced myself not to read it. Then I found it on her site and decided to give in to my temptation and read it.
I first read the host and then loved Stephenie Meyers as an author. I had watched the movie Twilight and I liked it, but was not a HUGE fan like others. My son had all the books and I decided to start with New Moon and I ended up finishiing the entire saga in less than a week.. SERIOUSLY. Reading each book within a 24 hr period.
Last night I read Midnight Sun and I am not sure if I am glad I did or not. I loved it from Edward's POV even more than from Bella's,but just being left hanging bothers me and I am sincerely hoping she will finsih the book in the near future.
PLEASE FINISH THE BOOK, I love your books. Ive read them like 4 times and cant get enough. when Im down i read them and pretent that i'm in another world and forget all my problems. PLEASE!! finish Midnight Sun!
