Accomplished horror writer Stephen King has said the following about Twilight & Harry Potter:
"Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. … The real difference is that [Harry Potter author] Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and [Twilight author] Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good."
- Stephen King tells USA Today
What do you all think about Stephen's accusation?

I think that she is a great writer. I may be just a fan but her books have hooked everyone of my friends, even a guy i know has read them all.
I think that she writes in a way that it is easy for her readers to get involved. Hence the fact that young readers love the books so much. The vocabulary is not difficult and everything runs together smoothly.
However, I do not think she is in the category of a great writer.
Stephen King makes his point in a way that is easy for readers to understand and see the correctness of.
She's an exraordinary writer...I read all her books. I never made it through a Stephen King Book...his books bore me to death.
Amber Rose's comment seems pretty valid to me. So does King's accusation. Anonymous (who is bored by Stephen King books), you sound terribly biased.
i think she is a well accomplished writer i can not read any books By J.K Rowling or stephen king or id VOMIT! And that is just stephens opinion.
First of i havent read any ofhis work because im not into horror...but i give him credit that his work must be good considering the amount of people who like it(including literary critics), however his comment proves to me he has a nasty character and lack of respect twards other writers.
Im a big fan of Twiligh and im a bit annoyed of the popularity the books have, but grateful cause all the publicity lef me to read them, and im an avid reader i usually finish 2-3 books a month and mostly clasic writers so i was surprized that i liked Twilight so much
IMO Stephenie has what it takes to be a great writer her books have flaws but i bet King's arent perfect ither...and i usually am a picky reader but finished every book in the series in under 48 hours...so she is doing something right
I can see where Stephen King says that, I love her books too but like Amber Rose said, she's not a Great Writer. I have loved Stephen King books as long as I can remember and if they bore you they are above your grade level
I'm afraid to say that Rowling is way beyond Meyer... Rowling built an entiry world and Meyer just used the vampire old myth and changed some features. Of course Harry Potter is more overwrought than Twilight. Anyway they're both extraorginary.
He's spot on. She is a horrible writer in almost every aspect. Style, structure, plot, characterization, all somewhat mediocre and exhibiting somewhat immature and poorly-thought out socialization on her part. Stephen hit the nail on its head.
I'm torn because I love each of the three writers for very different reasons. King takes me into the farthest recesses of where my mind and imagination and fears can take me while bringing realism into play. He is legendary and what I would consider classic. Rowling, on the other hand has created this complete, complex miraculous world full of unique characters and what can be considered as a fantasy world. Easy enough for a child to read, but intense enough for an adult be intrigued, her works revolutionized young adult fiction and brought millions of children back to the book shelves. As for Meyers, she is a romantic, and what she does she does well. Her books are engaging and much like what some would dub romance novels "smut" books, she deals in the love and lust aspect of the mind, with a nice healthy dose of fantasy and horror thrown in.And she is writing or teens...and do that with aplomb. She probably won't win a pulizter, but she keeps people happy....and by people I mean millions of avid readers who salivate as the prospect of another book. Some merit should be given to the "everyman" writer. I'm just glad that I don't have to choose.
I agree completely with King. There is just no comparison with Meyer and Rowling! Rowling's story is a phenomenon, as are her novels. Her books portray political, racial, bigoted and prejudice issues that when interpreted relate to reality. She includes every human struggle society faces today in her novels(racism, homophobia, dictatorship, war, poverty, death etc).
Meyer's novels are good for entertainment but amount to nothing more than self-absorbed characters and no real moral to the stories. The plot contains no issues except teenage (quarreling over each other)romantics. They dwell on the key characters with limited success and the romance is superficial, sickening and repeating at times. A truly modernless read!
